Johanna Mitchell, LPCC

About Johanna

Johanna was born in Hollywood and raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. After attending college in New Orleans, she moved to Santa Fe, where she spent six years working at the Santa Fe Community Guidance Center and began her career in behavioral health.

Johanna later returned to New Orleans, where she raised her daughter for 15 years. In 2025, after her daughter graduated from college, Johanna returned to New Mexico to be closer to her parents, who have called Abiquiú home for more than 20 years.

Her return to New Mexico also brought her full circle professionally. When Johanna joined Presbyterian Medical Services in 2026, it had been 20 years since she first applied for a position with the Santa Fe Community Guidance Center. What began as an early chapter in her career has now come full circle, bringing her back to New Mexico and to PMS.

Areas of Interest

I specialize in trauma and neurodivergence, using interventions including EMDR, EFT, and TF-CBT. I enjoy teaching, and I'm part-time adjunct faculty with Southwestern College teaching subjects including Trauma, Psychopathology, Ethics, and Addictions. I worked in EMS throughout grad school (911 response in Los Angeles County, and in-hospital unit support at UCLA), and I have been a Red Cross CPR instructor and instructor trainer for more than 20 years.

I am also fascinated by the natural sciences and gardening and try to spend as much time as I can outdoors (UV index permitting).
