About Mercy
Raised in rural Vermont as the daughter of a doctor and a nurse and the oldest of 6, I was destined to become a family therapist. When my mother entered treatment for alcoholism, I embraced the concept that emotional and mental problems are rooted in the family dynamics and multigenerational history.
In 1982, I began my career as a psychiatric social worker at UCLA and moved back to my hometown in 1989. There I began my postgraduate studies of Bowen Family Systems Theory which is the foundation of my role as a therapist. I have worked with all ages in the areas of abuse in the family, addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, marriage and family relationship challenges. The tools and strategies I share are based in my experience with biofeedback and neurofeedback, EMDR, and cognitive behavioral therapy. EAP workplace consulting and a variety of community volunteer experiences have led to the study of leadership at work and in the family.
As a clinical supervisor, I am committed to the wellbeing and education of therapists and caregivers. Expanding knowledge about human behavior feeds my bottomless curiosity about the human condition. I have two adult sons and two granddaughters. A lifelong meditator and student of earth-based spirituality, I enjoy time with my extended family, exploring local cultural history, the arts, hiking, biking, golf and yoga. Having traveled to New Mexico for 30 years and lived in Arizona, I am excited for the opportunity to live and work in New Mexico.
